Hi there,

I'm getting an error when I try to backup a database and hit the 'run now' button.

Here's the email contents:

Database 406085_newlevel: Backup - Failure

DETAILED LOG:
27/10/2009 15:19:51 Creating backup of 406085_newlevel
27/10/2009 15:19:52 ERROR: Backup of 406085_newlevel failed: Cannot open backup device 'C:\Windows\TEMP\0pok1arv.kfb\406085_newlevel200910271519.bak'. Operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.).
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
27/10/2009 15:19:52 Removing temporary folder C:\Windows\TEMP\0pok1arv.kfb

Please could you advise me of what the problem could be?

Any advice appreciated :)

Many thanks,
Lisa

You should grant LOCAL SYSTEM (or LOCAL SERVICE) account with write/read permissions for C:\Windows\TEMP folder or specify different temporary folder in Advanced settings.

Hi again,

I first tried specifying a different temporary folder in the Advanced settings of SQLBackupAndFTP but am getting the same error.

Sorry to be 'non techie' but how do I grant LOCAL SYSTEM (or LOCAL SERVICE) account with write/read permissions?

I've tried right clicking in the specified folder > properties > security > all the groups/users have full permisions so I'm stuck a bit.

Hope you can help.

Thanks,
Lisa

Please try to do backup the database to your temporary folder manually under your account. You can do it using SQL Server Management Studio.

I am having the same problem. No matter where I tell it use as a temp folder, it seems unable to create files at that location. Windows XP Home does not have the same Security settings as XP Professional, that is why a previous user was not able to see the options mentioned. Even using My Documents for a temp folder does not work, even though the current logged in user has full right to that folder.

Please try to do backup the database to the same folder using SQL Server Management Studio.
