We just purchased the Professional Lifetime version of SQLBackupAndFTP and I'm going through getting the backup job prepared. When I attempt to save the job I'm prompted with the following error: "The SQLBackupAndFTP Service service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Taking a look at the Services under Event Viewer I'm able to locate the service which is set up with the following: Name: SQLBackupAndFTP Service Description: Status: Startup Type: Automatic Log On As: Local System The program is installed on Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 Please let me know if there is anything that I need to do or if you need any additional information. I'm wondering if you solved the problem because I've run into exactly the same problem on Win2008. The service simply doesn't want to start.

Im seeing the same "service will not start" error on Small Business Server 2008 Sp2. getting Error 1053 in event logs and scheduler service will not launch.
Im running version 6.5.1.39061 on the server.
Please advise on resolution.

SqlbackupandFTP service is set to automoatic and is started fine. Sqlbackupandftpschedulerstarter service is set to automoatic and not started. when attempted to be launched manually it fails with error indicated above in my original post. Product does the backup, but I am forced to use the simple schedule. I want and need advanced schedculing and I cannot use it since it appears the scheduler service wont start. Pls advise.

Well, we need some time to try to find out a possible cause why you cannot start "SqlBackupAndFTP Scheduler Starter" (You get "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion", right?).
However "SqlBackupAndFtp Service" designed to handle advanced scheduled jobs. So, you can use advanced scheduling, if you do not have any issue with this service.

When I choose anything other than a "simple" once a day backup, it flips the scheduler choice from Windows task schedler to your failed service . Jobs started from teh windows AT task scheuler seem fine, obviously all other schedules are broken and dont launch. Yes, that's the error Im getting when I try to manually launch the service. Is there a way for me to manually create the job task in windows scheduler as a workaround? If so, what what be the path (defualt install) to teh .exe and any otehr command line parameters I'd need to pass when the job starts? I'm shooting for an every six hour full backup of one sql express database...

As far as I understand "SqlBackupAndFtp Service" is running on your machine.
This service handles scheduled jobs. So, if your scheduled jobs are not running, could you please check:
1. Does the job appears at "Scheduled Jobs" window when you use "SQLBackupAndFTP service"? Click at "Jobs" toolbutton to open it.
2. Do you have any error related to "SBF Service" and "SQLBackupAndFtp" in windows event log?
3. Do you have any error in the log file? Click at "Log" toolbutton to open it.

Hello, we have the same issue here with the Scheduler... :/ Right after clicking on the Start button in Services manager, it says: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Checked the Event log which says pretty much the same: The SQLBackupAndFTP Scheduler Starter service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. We're running Windows Server 2008 R2 on this machine. It would be really good to make it work. :) If you need any help / feedback / test we can help. :) Regards, John

Excuse the bandwidth, have had trouble with the forum kept logging me off and my posts then were from Guest. This should be from me (g6hoq) I want to buy a few copies of this program for our many servers, but dare not until this error is fixed. Regards Steve

It seems your system is missing MSVCR100.dll. You may find this file attached. Please unzip it into <Program Files>\Pranas.NET\SQLBackupAndFTP folder and try to start "SqlBackupAndFTP Scheduler Starter" again.
